Tell us a little about Miranda?
“Hi I’m Miranda, I’m from a small town in Finland. I grew up dancing. I knew I was half English though I’d never been here that much, so I was watching lots of period dramas thinking, [smiles] ‘England is this romantic place’ and then I moved later on to London.”
How did you start dancing?
“My mum wanted to dance when she was little though in the church she used to go to, it was not ok at the time, so she was always dreaming of having dancing kids. So when she had three kids she put all of us in dance school, that’s how I started.”
How has your relationship with dance evolved?
“Well, it’s become a job but my favourite part of dance is still being someone who goes to dance classes to train so its, in that sense it’s not changed.”
What styles and disciplines of dance have you trained in?
“I’m classically trained so my movement will have foundations of ballet, jazz, contemporary. In the recent, seven or something years, I’ve trained much more in street styles. I think now my strongest disciplines would be Hip Hop, Popping, Waacking and Voguing, which has aided my journey as a commercial dancer.”
How has your dance informed your artistry and further ventures?
“Well, I it’s a big part of my identity and its given the confidence to go out and try many other things, [Laughs] just knowing that I have this thing already going for me or something that I love, something that I’m known for or like I’ve made relationships in. So I think it’s just made me braver with whatever I want to do.”
What have you been up to recently?
“Recently I’ve been doing lots of auditions, lots of castings, lots of seeing people, after lockdown finally seeing people in person. Just trying to get the next bigger gig. In the meantime I’ve also been doing many smaller shoots and test shoots. To be fair this past year has been really great for me, especially dance wise because as for a long time I was earning from modelling mainly with dance being a little bit on the side and in the past year it’s been more dancing, which I have loved!”
